Introduction for this Week's Assignment

5-Day Reflection & 3-Month Commitment

Hello BVisionRYs! 

Thank you for attending and participating in our first workshop (Listening Lab); I enjoyed our learning time together! 

During this workshop we covered the following: 

  1. The meaning of coaching 
  2. The difference between a traditional manager and a manager-as a-coach
  3. The 12 features of listening as a coach
  4. Practiced these 12 features
  5. Set the 7-coach chain challenge 

Now it is time for you to put what you learned into practice. Because remember, if you do not put what you learned in practice, your tools will rust!


The purpose of this Assignment: 

This assignment is designed to help you bridge the gap between theory and practice by embracing a growth mindset. This mindset is the core belief that you can achieve things and overcome challenges not by innate talent, but by continuously learning and developing new skills.

This assignment serves as the critical bridge between theoretical understanding and applied, long-term habit formation.

  • Cement Learning: It encourages you to internalize and reinforce the core concepts learned in the workshop.
  • Measure Progress: It encourages you to gather data and compare your initial skill perception (from the Self-Assessment) against five days of intentional practice.
  • Commit to Growth: Most importantly, it requires you to define and commit to long-term behavioral change through specific, measurable goals and an accountability structure.

The process for completing this task:

This assignment is a direct application of what we covered in our first workshop. The goal is to get your learning momentum going by focusing on practicing listening with intention and attention during your meetings and interactions with your stakeholders.

You have five working days to complete this assignment. This is a continuous learning process. 

Part One: The tracking Log

1.Keep Track: Using this tracking Log complete it each day after 3 meetings or interactions.

2. Submit Your Log: On the fifth day,  simply submit your completed Weekly Tracking Log.

Part Two: Personal Reflection - The 5-Day Change

Write a short response of 150-200 words analyzing the difference between your initial listening skill self assessment (trial # 1 during the workshop) and your current experience after practicing it at least 15 times. You can address the following:

  • The Change: Describe what has changed in your day-to-day interactions after intentionally practicing the listening features for five days.
  • Specific Success: Provide one specific example where you successfully used a listening feature.
  • Specific Struggle: Provide one specific example of where you still struggle.
  • Impact Others: Provide examples of how it impacted your relationship and interactions with others

Part Three: Future Commitments & Accountability

List three specific, measurable commitments related to active listening that you will focus on over the next three months.

The work you will submit: 

Your submission for this second assignment will be the "Skill Learning Plan" tab in your existing LDP Google Sheet.

Instructions:

Step One- Final Review: Take a moment to review all fields to ensure they are complete. The sheet saves automatically.

Step Two- Submit Your Work:

  • Click the "Share" button in the top right corner of your master LDP Google Sheet.
  • Change the sharing setting from "Restricted" to "Anyone with the link."
  • Set the access to "Editor."
  • Click "Copy link" and paste it into the Lighthouse submission portal.
